I really think the idea is to create Halloween costume that will not cost a fortune ,make heads turn and people smile. It is not all the difficult and here are 10 ideas for you that will for help you accomplish it!
1 – Kitty Kat
This very simple, but pretty impressive looking costume is really easy to make. Start with a black sweat suit. Make a cat ear headband:
Using construction paper, cut a strip about 2 inches wide and long enough to wrap around your head. You will want to make it couple inches longer so that you will have room to staple the ends together. Fold another piece of paper in a half and cut out pointy ears. At this point, you can add striped, spots or any other design you want by drawing them on with magic marker.
Put the bottom edge of each ear against the strip of paper you had already cut and staple or tape them into place. And then just staple or tape ends of the headband together so that it fits snugly around your head.
Next – use piece of felt or more construction paper to cut out a long thin tail. Using safety pins, attach it to the back side of your sweat pants.
Using black eyeliner or face paints, make yourself whiskers and black nose.
You could stop there or add feather boa – easy to pick up at a dollar store or a craft store. Cut it into sections to fit around neck, arms and also use it for the tail. The boa pieces can be attached with safety pins.
2 – Kandy Kane
Incredibly easy costume to make! All you need is a long sleeve white T-shirt, pair of long while pants (long underwear will do nicely) and red and green duct tape. Just stick the tape to the clothes in alternating colours – the way striped are on candy canes. When you are doing it, make sure you put the tape on loosely – it will have a much better effect.
Large Styrofoam candy cane can be picked up at a dollar store or easily made by cutting cardboard, wrapping white paper around it (you can use paper towels or white kitchen garbage bags to so that) and wrapping tape around.
3 – Charlie Brown
There isn’t a costume that is much easier to put together than this one. Black short, socks and shoes that you already have to start with. Then all you need is yellow T-shirt – second hand stores have tons of them! And then cut the zig-zag pattern from old black T-shirt of any black material. Attach the zig-zag pattern to the yellow T-shirt by either sewing it on or using fabric glue and you are done !
4 – Witch
To start – check out boxes of stuff you may have in your storage – or visit second hand store. You will not have any problems finding pieces of clothing to make this costume out of. You will want to find a hat with the wig attached – easiest way to do this. Then you will need a black turtleneck shirt or sweater and a leotard. You should be able to find the stripped leotard in a store like Wal-mart or you could also use black leotard and stripped socks.
Cut an old dress or a skirt into ragged strips and pin each strip onto a black elastic belt.
You can embellish the costume by attaching a large silk flower and a broom to make it complete.
5 – Old Lady
Another – how much easier could this be? Costume!
Find and old dress – the more flowers or brighter colours the better. Then you will need couple of baby blankets and couple of Depends undergarments. First – fold up the baby blankets and the Depends. Put on an old pair of knit shorts and place them in the back to add to your backside.
Then put on the old dress,. Tie it with an old belt and place the folded baby blankets in the fron to make it looks like your bosoms have fallen. Put your hair up and add powder to make them gray. Use the baby powder all over your face to make it pale and add lines and wrinkles with eyeliner pencil.
To “dress” this up even more, add long necklace, purse with candy in it and whatever else you may think of. And make sure you talk with a cracked voice and call every young guy “Sonny”!
6 – Mad Scientist
Using clothes you already have is one of the best ideas – to top it of, you won’t spend a tons of money!
Start with white dress shirt and black slacks. Slick back hair with hair gel or hair spray.
You will need to find a pair of glasses (you can remove the lenses easily) and play doctor set. Nice touch is a small notepad and crayons in the pocket and Bad-Aids in the pant pocket.
7 – Mother Nature
Start with a brown track suit – or brown sweater and brown pants if that is what you have on hand.
The – using glue gun, start attaching items that will represent each season – like snow ornaments, snowflakes, fall leaves, ivy, flowers, birds, butterflies – whatever you can think of. You can find a piece of blue netting or blue sheer material to represent water. You can glue on sea shells and pieces of corral to the belt.
And here is a fun item that really makes this costume great – pair of animal shoes! Just a pair of old slipper and stuffed animals of your choice will do that!
8 – Pets for Sale
Find a large cardboard box and wrap it in paper (your choice). Attach wide ribbon to make suspenders that will make the box hang over shoulders.
Get some poster board or construction paper and make a sign that says: Animals for Sale and a dollar amount. You can add paw prints to make the box more decorative. Glue the sign on front of the box.
Glue or staple small stuffed animals everywhere you can think of – including pinning some to the clothing!
9 – Popcorn Box
Find a large cardboard box and cut off the top where your head will be. On the bottom, cut holes for your legs – but make sure you don’t cut the holes too big – you will be putting balloons inside the box.
Then cut holes in the sides for your arms. When you are done cutting, paint the box with white and red stripes (poster paint should do the trick)
Then make sign that says “Popcorn” and attach it to the front of your box.
You will need white and yellow balloons – blown up on various sizes to represent the popcorn kernels.
Put on white t-Shirt, white sweat pants, step into the popcorn box and have someone fill it with balloons, you can add white hat with pieces of real popcorn glued to it – and you are ready to go!
10 – Super Baby
This outfit will put smiles on everyone’s face! All you need is a piece of red fabric for the cape and a blue T-Shirt,to which you attach the red “S” symbol cut out of felt and attached to a piece of yellow felt. Matching blue pants or suitable red pants will make the easiest ever baby costume!
I hope you will have fun making these costumes and that you will have a happy and safe Halloween! Please send in your comments, suggestions and experiences – your input is always welcomed!
